My Bi-weekly Mass Layoff Report: February 24 to March 9 2013

March 20, 2013 by AAL

Welcome once again to my Mass Layoff Bi-weekly Report. I am over a week late with this report, but sometimes its better to be late than never releasing at all :).

This is a report that I put together to track Mass layoffs (which I currently defined as over 500, maybe some day it will be defined as below 100). So Why this report? Well I believe that turning a blind eye to the reality of layoffs, often leads people to believe that it can never happen to them. The reality is, that if you are not the owner of the business with sole control then, there is always a chance that you could be terminated. If you know someone that maybe affected by these announcement please reach out and lend your support.

So with that, here is my summary for the last two weeks.

Company Announced Number of Job Cuts Source
QBE ( International ) 700 Daily Telegraph
JPMorgan 15,000 by 2014 Forbes
Caterpillar ( Belgium ) 1400 Global Post
HP 15,000 Business Insider
7 Companies 1700 Daily Herald
Thomas Cook 2500 Business Week
J.C. Penney 1500 Fox Business
Chase Home Mortgage 550 SCNOW
Motorola Mobility (Google) 1200 CNET

Lastly, if you are a visitor of the site who have been impacted by these layoffs, our support goes out to you.
